The Women's Leadership Academy
The Women’s leadership Academy allowed me to strengthen my leadership abilities while also expanding my knowledge on current issues that directly affect women. The keynote speaker Kim White, a former UTC graduate and the current CEO of the River City Company, explained the obstacles she faced as a woman to build her nonprofit organization. She elaborated on policies that negatively affect women as they aim to obtain positions that are heavy dominated by men. She further explained the various demeaning stereotypes she received throughout her journey towards promoting economic development throughout downtown Chattanooga. With the knowledge obtained at this retreat, I was able to confront inequalities and delegate events that reinforced the importance of inclusion and diversity as a whole. This retreat served beneficial in helping me cultivate a leadership style that is unique and allows me to confront pressing issues with confidence. The attendees at the retreat were very inspirational and made it evident that their goal was to empower young women while also helping them enhance their professional development.
